5-star/entertaining!:
. the book warns that the publisher and the author
are not experts but entertainers;
although they did a good job of
reminding you during foraging
that an expert is needed
because a lot of poisonous plants out there
look like the herbs you want.
. suggested website for Native American herbs:
mountain rose herbs.
https://mountainroseherbs.com/
. the book is also about Native American traditions.
. when it talked about a "vision quest"
I thought it would mention entheogens
(drugs that promote visions of a god)
but the only spiritual enhancer was fasting
and social isolation.
. however in the "Smudging" ceremony,
"messages" are sent to the "Great Spirit"
using "Juniper" as a way to "fight bad magic",
and "mugwort" to "deepen psychic abilities"
which I assumed meant telepathy with the Great Spirit.
. these herbs are smoked:
"Smudging, as smoldering combustion,
produces higher yields of smoke
when compared to flaming combustion."
[National Research Council Canada]
. I really enjoyed the book,
and would also recommend the ebook;
but, the ebook doesn't let you see a summary of
of text that you've highlighted;
rather it shows random unrelated text.
